Defacto Matters

A relationship is defined as a Defacto relationship if the parties have lived together in a meaningful relationship for a period of at least 2 years, or live together and have a child together.  Defacto relationships can be either sex or same sex relationships.

The same 4 step process for determining the division of property applies to Defacto relationships as marriages. 

Civil partnerships will also be considered a Defacto Relationship (with certain requirements) under the Family Law Act.
