Kathy Moradshahi is Special Counsel at Queensland Family Law Practice and brings more than 20 years of legal experience to the firm.
Kathy assists clients across a broad range of family law matters, including property settlements, parenting matters, divorce, financial agreements, child support and spousal maintenance. She has extensive experience representing clients through negotiations, mediations, conciliation conferences, interim hearings, trials and other court proceedings.
Her approach is calm, practical and focused on helping clients understand their options and make informed decisions during what can be an extremely difficult period in their lives.
Kathy also brings valuable commercial and financial experience to family law. Her combined qualifications in Commerce (Accounting) and Law, together with many years running her own legal practice, provide a strong foundation when assisting clients with property and financial matters.
Kathy has considerable experience working with clients from culturally diverse backgrounds and has a strong understanding of Farsi-speaking communities.
She speaks fluent Farsi and has worked extensively with Iranian and Afghan clients, giving her an appreciation of the cultural, family and communication considerations that can arise in family law matters.
She also has experience working with Indian and Korean clients and communities.

Experience & Leadership
Kathy has held senior family law positions at Special Counsel level and has substantial experience conducting and resolving complex family law matters.
Her experience includes appearing in trials and interim hearings, representing clients in mediations and conciliation conferences, negotiating settlements, preparing court documents and financial agreements and advising clients across complex parenting and property matters.
Kathy also spent approximately 18 years as Principal Director of her own legal practice, where she was responsible for client matters, staff supervision, governance and compliance. She has also mentored junior lawyers and supervised legal staff.
Her combination of senior family law experience, financial understanding, cultural awareness and ability to communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds makes Kathy a valuable member of the Queensland Family Law Practice team.
Interests outside of work
Outside of work, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family, keeping active and enjoying the outdoors. She has a love of music and is looking forward to getting back into playing the guitar, which she enjoyed in the past. She has a passion for gardening and growing flowers.
